BRIEF PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Volunteers plant and maintain the community gardens. The gardens surrounding the Village offices is a demonstration of plants adapted to clay soils. SCMG volunteers work on three garden spaces at the Corrales Library – the Mother’s Rose Garden, the Children’s Garden, and in the fall of 2019 the Pollinators Garden. Also, in 2019 SCMG volunteers are beginning a garden space at the Old Church.
MAIN EDUCATION/TRAINING TASKS:
SCMG volunteers are able to work on design, plant selection as well as plant maintenance. Also, the Children’s garden volunteers work with the Children’s Librarian to create an edible garden and learning experience for local children. While working volunteers are frequently approached by members of the public with questions, providing an opportunity for outreach activity.
BENEFICIARIES OF THE PROJECT:
Corrales residents are the primary beneficiaries. Volunteers have an opportunity to learn about plants for different spaces, purposes, and soils and to practice pruning and planting skills, as well as share information with other master gardeners.
