Field Trip: Sandia Mountain Natural History Center
Our hike was led by Michael Cox, environmental educator and long-time volunteer at the center. We started at 7 thousand feet and climbed from Pinyon/Juniper habitat into Ponderosa Pime/Mixed Fir forest. We arrived at Mud Springs, one of several natural spring in the East Mountains. Michael talked about the area’s ecology and showed pictures of the many animals caught by trail cameras. Brandt Magic SEMG Master Gardener identified plants and Bethany Abrahamson Sandoval Extension Agent identified insects.
