Corrales Farm Tour
Join us for a tour of a few of the farms of Corrales! This stimulating, half-day event will take place Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.
We will meet at the Corrales Family Practice Garden at 3841 Corrales Road in Corrales. From there, transportation will be provided to FOUR farms. These farms include:
Wagner Farms Apple Orchard: Anthony Wagner will talk about the 60-year-old orchard and the process of flood irrigation from the acequia. Wagner Farms includes a Farm Store and café and hosts numerous annual events including a fall corn maze, pumpkin patch and apple festival. Recently, a third generation of Wagner farmers has begun cultivating microgreens.
Corrales Classic Farms: Russell Trujillo’s farm specializes in growing alliums (garlic, onions) using drip irrigation. Russell has a home composting operation. Russell and his family live in an earthship house made of both natural and recycled materials. Earthship houses are designed to collect and store their own energy.
Silverleaf Farms: Silverleaf Farms is one of the leading hydroponic and outdoor organic vegetable producers in the state. Their outdoor growing area spans 21 acres. In addition to providing produce to local restaurants and grocers, Silverleaf Farms has recently opened a retail space.
Corrales Family Practice Garden: Dr. Thal’s garden is one of a number of spaces in Corrales where private landowners have donated land and water to a group of volunteers to farm. The wide range of crops harvested here are mostly donated to St. Felix Food Pantry–typically more than 5,000 pounds during the warm season! Numerous patients of Dr. Thal’s have joined Master Gardeners to design and maintain this one-third acre growing area. Master Composter John Zarola will be on hand to answer questions about the on-site composting operation.
