To be a volunteer of this outreach project, you would have had to attend a mandatory Garden2Table training class over the last three years. Depending on interest, another training class may be scheduled for this summer.
Do you enjoy cooking with seasonal ingredients and working with seniors? If so, you may be interested in SCMG’s Garden2Table outreach project. Between March and the end of October 2020, teams of two SCMG volunteers will be demonstrating an easy to prepare recipe using readily available, seasonal produce once a month at the following Sandoval County senior or community centers: Bernalillo, Corrales, Cuba, Jemez, Pena Blanca. There are two volunteer slots per volunteer opportunity: one Lead and one Assistant. The responsibilities for each role can be found in the document link below.
The purpose of this outreach project is to encourage the use of local produce that is readily available at growers markets, grown in a center’s or one’s garden, or often donated to these centers to make a nutritional salad, soup, appetizer, or main course. The Garden2Table Chairs are currently developing nutritional recipes to demonstrate for each of the 8 months (March through October) by researching seasonal produce that is typically and readily available to each center’s members. Our audience is comprised of senior citizens and others whom typically utilize senior/community centers for food donations and social activities
