Home Composting Basics Class!

WHEN: Saturday Sep 6 10:00am-12:00pm

INSTRUCTOR: John Zarola.

ABOUT: Basic composting science, class to be held at the Open Space Visitor Center, will be presented with a special focus on practices for a high desert climate. A variety of home composting options will be covered. Take-home information will help a participant get started and/or improve an already chosen composting method. Prior to the class it may be useful to read our brochures: (1) Composting in the Desert, and (2) Selecting a Method that Works for You.

Water Wise Demonstration Garden (WWG)

The Water Wise Demonstration Garden (WWG) in Rio Rancho is a cooperative effort between the City of Rio Rancho Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, and SEMG, who also partner with Keep Rio Rancho Beautiful, Rio Rancho Tree Stewards and local businesses. The one-acre Water Wise Demonstration Garden adjoins Rio Rancho’s Veterans Memorial Park. The garden is divided into multiple gardening zones showcasing landscapes and plants that grow and thrive in the high desert  The Garden features xeriscape principles, effective drip/bubbler/spray irrigation, and the use of various mulches to conserve moisture and reduce weeds.

No registration necessary, just show up.
You will need to sign in at the event (if you are an intern, please bring your name lanyard).

Bucket Composting with Bokashi Class!

INSTRUCTOR: Master Composter Rye Bailey

The Bokashi method is a two-step approach to composting. The first step is anaerobic, involving the fermentation of food waste. The fermented food waste is then incorporated into the soil during the second stage. There are several advantages to the method including the ability to incorporate meat and dairy products.
